Celebrating the life of

Ned J. Winter

October 01, 1936 - February 29, 2024

Ned J. Winter

Ned Jefferson Winter, Sr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 29, 2024, at Riverview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Savannah, Georgia. Born October 1, 1938, to Thelma Stephens Winter and Albert Louie Winter, Sr., he grew up in Pooler, Georgia, graduating from Marlow High School in 1954. He attended Armstrong State College and the University of Georgia, and worked as an agent for State Farm Insurance, retiring after 38 years of service.

As a member of Memorial Baptist Church for many years, he served as a deacon and on the board of directors for Memorial Day School, helping to found and guide the school in its early years. He also attended White Bluff Presbyterian Church, where he had the opportunity to volunteer on seven mission trips to Mississippi to contribute to the rebuilding efforts after Hurricane Katrina. He counted these trips as some of his most meaningful experiences. He also belonged to a number of civic and service organizations over the years, including the Optimist Club, Masons, Shriners, and Jaycees.

He had a special interest in history and was a world traveler, always eager to learn about new places and people. He was also an avid handyman and craftsman, who could often be found covered in sawdust in his workshop or doing home improvement projects. He was generous in giving away gifts he had made, as well as helping family and friends with his expertise and labor.

He leaves behind his wife, Sandee; daughter, Cindy (Scott Selfridge); sons Jeff and Wes (Kim), as well as granddaughters Kyndall, Keeley, and Karsyn. He was preceded in death by his brother, Albert Louie Winter, Jr., and sister, Thelma Stanley Winter.

Special appreciation and thanks to the staff of Savannah Square and Riverview Health, as well as the personal caregivers who treated him with so much kindness. He will be greatly missed by those who love him.

A memorial service to honor his life will be held at a later date at Fox and Weeks Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Drive.

Sandee: I thank you and Ned for what you did while you were my insurance agent. I still remember the time you saved me money on my car's hail damage with Hail Doctors. May Ned rest in peace.

Mr. Winter was our entire family's Insurance Agent. He was always so kind and friendly whenever we needed his personal help. My Father, Howard Mims, would always tell us after speaking to Mr. Winter, "He is how you speak to people, get things done and works for his policy holders". Mr Winters professionalism was greatly appreciated by our family. Our thoughts are with his family.

- David Mims, Savannah , Ga
